Gilbert Cote

  • The focus of Dr. Cote’s research is the use of molecular approaches to find new targets and markers to guide the treatment of endocrine cancers. He is recognized for the application of genetic approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with sporadic and hereditary forms of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). A long-term goal of the group is to better understand the mechanisms through which RET drives tumorigenesis and the discovery of other genes involved in this process. More recent work has focused on identification of new therapeutic targets for treatment of metastatic MTC and development of new blood-based biomarker assays to examine the role of somatic mutation in tumor progression.
