Philip Pelliterri

  • I currently serve as Chairman, Department of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery, Guthrie Clinic, and Director of the System Service Line, Guthrie Health System.  In this capacity, I direct and oversee all clinical programs and operations for the Otolaryngology service line within the entire Guthrie Health System, represented by a broad geographic area comprised of 14 counties and 4 hospitals in the southern tier of New York and northern tier of Pennsylvania, with a service population base of nearly 2 million people.

I earned board certification by the American Board of Otolaryngology and have received advanced fellowship training in head and neck surgical oncology.  For the past 25 years I have served as surgical faculty in an academic tertiary care environment with an accompanying non university based residency training program in Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery and, most recently, as subspecialty surgical faculty for residents in General Surgery.  Over the past 19 years, my clinical, surgical, and research focus areas have involved exclusively head, neck and endocrine surgery.  My educational and scientific experience are represented by an extensive record of active, and direct, participation in clinical and basic/translational research.  Over the course of my professional career, I have actively participated in scholastic and educational endeavors through platforms such as our national specialty academy (AAO-HNSF), as well as invited subspecialty educational venues in head, neck and endocrine surgical oncology, together with contributions to the medical literature though peer reviewed manuscripts and texts.  I serve on the editorial board of several otolaryngology periodicals and am a founding member of the International Head and Neck Study Group.

I hold academic appointments with The Commonwealth Medical College, the Temple University School of Medicine, and Cornell University at the rank of Clinical Professor.  I have consistently supported and represented the academic and scholarly profile of the institutions with which I have been associated by serving on state, regional and national academic committees; participating in national subspecialty educational and research forums; and by serving as a national specialty board examiner for the American Board of Otolaryngology.
