Cosimo Durante

WCTC - World Congress on Thyroid Cancer

Cosimo Durante is Full Professor of Internal Medicine at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, where he received his MD and completed his residency and PhD training in Endocrinology and Metabolism.

His research focuses on the management of thyroid tumors, encompassing both benign and malignant neoplasms, with a particular interest in developing more personalized strategies for the diagnosis and follow-up of thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer. He has led and contributed to numerous successful research projects in this field.

Among his major scientific contributions is the development of the web-based database of the Italian Thyroid Cancer Observatory (ITCO), established to prospectively collect real-world data on thyroid cancer management in a consecutive series of newly diagnosed patients.

He has served as a member of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Task Force responsible for the 2019, 2022, and 2026 Clinical Practice Guidelines on thyroid cancer. He also serves as Chair of the European Thyroid Association (ETA) Task Force and as a member of the American Thyroid Association (ATA) Task Force for the development of clinical practice guidelines on thyroid nodule management.

Create an environment to stimulate research in the field of thyroid oncology
Build the groundwork for future direction in the management and research in thyroid cancer
Foster camaraderie and build relationships to develop opportunities amongst all professional colleagues for exchange of information and experiences as well as research findings
