Manuel Durán-Poveda, M.D., Ph.D., FACS is a Professor of Surgery at the Faculty of Health Sciences in the Department of Medical Specialties and Public Health in King Juan Carlos University and Chief of Endocrine Surgery and Head of the Department of General Surgery at King Juan Carlos University Hospital in Madrid (Spain). He has worked as an attending surgeon and chief of endocrine and neck surgery in different hospitals in Spain. Dr. Durán is a general and endocrine surgeon with a special interest in endocrine surgical oncology and has an endocrine surgical practice focused on benign thyroid surgery, thyroid cancer, hyperparathyroidism, and adrenal surgery.

He has received training in head and neck and endocrine surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (Prof. J Shah-A Shaha), Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary (Prof. G Randolph) and at University of Chicago (Prof. E Kaplan-Prof. P Angelos). He trained in intraoperative nerve monitoring in Thyroid and Parathyropid Surgery with Prof. G Randolph at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary and is an active member of the International Neural Monitoring Study Group being the Spanish representative of the working group.

Dr. Durán is academically active at national and international meetings, with more than 150 peer reviewed publications, 137 book chapters and 11 books of the specialty.

The mission of the World Congress on Thyroid Cancer is to:

Develop a collegial multidisciplinary global platform for all specialists for the discussion on the diagnosis, and treatment of thyroid cancer
Create an environment to stimulate research in the field of thyroid oncology
Build the groundwork for future direction in the management and research in thyroid cancer
Foster camaraderie and build relationships to develop opportunities amongst all professional colleagues for exchange of information and experiences as well as research findings
