Furio Pacini is Professor of Endocrinology, University of Siena, Italy. He obtained his medical degree (1973) and his postgraduate training in Endocrinology (1977) from the University of Pisa. Dr. Pacini pursued a two-year research fellowship in thyroidology at the University of Chicago. Back from USA, he was appointed at the Dept. of Endocrinology (University of Pisa), and moved to the University of Siena in 2002 as full professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism. Prof. Pacini has been involved in both clinical practice and research in thyroidology and thyroid cancer in particular. His research activity is characterized by hormonal, cellular and molecular approaches coupled with clinical observation, successfully bridging bench research and clinical practice, as testified in more than 250 publications. For his contribution to thyroidology, in 2008 he has been awarded the ATA Paul Starr Award and the ETA Merck Prize award. He has been President of the European Thyroid Association (ETA) and of the Italian Thyroid Association.
