James Brierley is Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. He obtained his medical degree from Westminster Medical School, University of London. He initially did postgraduate training in Internal Medicine including endocrinology before transferring to Clinical Oncology. After obtaining his FRCR in the UK he went to Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto for a year fellowship and stayed. He is especially interested in defining the role of both radioactive iodine and external beam radiotherapy in the management of all types of thyroid malignancy. He is also involved in cancer staging and cancer surveillance. He is a member of the ATA Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer Guidelines, Co- Chair of the CCO Thyroid Pathway Group, Co-Chair of the UICC TNM Prognostic Factors Core Group and Co-Editor of the UICC 8th edition TNM Classification of Malignant Tumours and a Member of the AJCC Executive.
