Kenneth B. Ain, M.D., is Director of the Thyroid Oncology Program and Professor of Medicine at the University of Kentucky, also directing the Thyroid Cancer Research Laboratory and the Thyroid Clinic at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He graduated college and medical school at Brown University, Medicine residency at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia and Fellowship in the Thyroid Study Unit at the University of Chicago. After four years as Senior Staff Fellow in the Clinical Endocrinology Branch at the National Institutes of Health, he joined the faculty of the University of Kentucky and Lexington VAMC in 1991. Dr. Ain has one of the nation’s largest thyroid oncology practices drawing patients internationally and is a basic scientist focusing on innovative therapeutics and cell biology of thyroid malignancies. His research interests include: epigenetics, regulation of sodium/iodide symporter, tumor angiogenesis, tumor immunology, and therapeutics involving these mechanisms for translational application.
